The Kingdom of God Is NOT What You Think (Most People Miss This)
Devotional: The Kingdom Is Nearer Than You Think
Based on the BibleFix video, “The Kingdom of God Is NOT What You Think”, the main reminder is that God’s Kingdom is not first a building, nation, program, or outward religious system. It is the rule and reign of Christ in redeemed people who belong to Him and live as His witnesses.
Reflection
Many people think of God’s Kingdom as something far away, political, visible, or tied to a specific earthly place. But Jesus corrected that idea. When the Pharisees asked when the Kingdom would come, Jesus explained that it was not arriving in the way they expected. The Kingdom of God is not merely something observed from the outside; it is present where Christ reigns.
Jesus said, “I will build my church” (Matthew 16:18). That means the church is not ultimately a building, a program, or a human institution. The true church is made of people who have been brought out of darkness and into the life of Christ. Believers are living temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).
After His resurrection, Jesus spent forty days speaking about the Kingdom of God (Acts 1:3). Even then, the disciples still wondered if He would restore an earthly kingdom to Israel. But Jesus pointed them to a greater mission: they would receive power from the Holy Spirit and become His witnesses “unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
That is the heart of the Kingdom: Christ ruling, the Spirit empowering, and the gospel advancing.
The Kingdom moves forward not by force, pride, politics, or human strength, but through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul preached this same Kingdom even in Rome, the center of earthly power (Acts 28:30–31). The message could not be stopped because the Kingdom belongs to God.
Personal Application
The important question is not simply, “Do I go to church?”
The deeper question is, “Am I part of the church Jesus is building?”
Church attendance is good, but it cannot save. Religious activity cannot replace repentance, faith, and new life in Christ. The evidence of belonging to the Kingdom is not just outward association, but inward transformation that produces fruit (Matthew 21:43).
A citizen of the Kingdom should live as a witness. That means our words, choices, compassion, holiness, and love should point others to Jesus. The world does not simply need stronger opinions; it needs the power of the gospel, which is “the power of God unto salvation” (Romans 1:16).
Questions for Prayer and Reflection
Am I treating God’s Kingdom as something external, or am I submitting to Christ’s reign in my own heart?
Is there visible fruit in my life that shows I belong to Jesus?
When was the last time I prayed with urgency for people who are still outside the Kingdom?
Where is God calling me to be a witness: at home, work, church, school, or in my community?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are King, and Your Kingdom cannot be defeated. Help me not to reduce Your Kingdom to a building, tradition, or outward religion. Rule in my heart. Fill me with the power of the Holy Spirit so I can be a faithful witness to You. Give me love for the lost, courage to speak the gospel, and humility to live as part of the church You are building. May Your Kingdom come, and may Your will be done in me.
Amen.
